What are Age Spots and where do they come from?

Those pesky dark spots or hyperpigmentation are due to the overproduction of melanin in the skin by melanocytes. This “overactivity” can be triggered by different things like hormonal changes (pregnancy), sun exposure, acne, or harsh products and/or chemicals.

How to help with Age Spots

1. Vitamin C

Vitamin C can be used as a topical antioxidant that helps to block free radicals. Free Radicals can lead to wrinkles and a dull complexion, among other things.

That’s not all – Vitamin C can also target problem pigmentation areas.

Try Vitamin C Serum

This is unbelievable!
"I need more! This vitamin C serum cleared up most of my SCAR FROM A SURGERY ON MY ARM!!!!

How to use it: Gently massage a few drops onto cleansed skin. Follow with your moisturizer and sunscreen."

2. Hydroquinone

When it comes to dark spot treatments, hydroquinone has been the gold standard for over 50 years. You can find this ingredient over the counter in concentrations of 2% or less, whereas the prescription has 4% or greater. Hydroquinone works to reduce amount of melanin produced.

Benefits:

  • Lightens dark spots from melasma, age spots, brown spots, discoloration from acne
  • Evens out skin tone for a more balanced complexion

Some individuals see results in a few weeks, but most should consistently use the product for 2-3 months to see a difference.

Doctors recommend testing the product in one area before applying it elsewhere.

Try Age Spot Treatment

"I'm using this cream for my hands for over 10 years and no age spots on my hands which make me so happy! This product is excellent!"

Customer Tip:FYI another use for hydroquinone: Hydroquinone is also a great treatment for for acne breakouts. Just a drop on the breakout and it helps dry up the spot without drying out the skin. I have noticed a significant difference, for the better, as quickly as overnight. Be patient with treating the dark spots, it does work if one uses it daily and remember to apply sunscreen

How to use it: Best applied at night to start and start applying it every other day. Depending on how your skin reacts, you can increase to daily for maximum effects.

During the day, be sure to pair with sunscreen as the ingredient can cause sun sensitivity.

3. Prevention is key

Daily sunscreen is the best way to prevent hyperpigmentation. Low levels of UV light exposure add up over a lifetime and can cause dark spots.

Dark spots will get darker over time with sun exposure. Be sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (at least SPF 30) to guard against UVA and UVB rays. You will need to reapply every 2 hours. Be mindful of how much time you’re spending outside when the sun is it’s strongest, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
